Sign Maintenance and Care
In business we are all interested in getting more ‘bang for your buck’. Everyone wants to spend their money wisely and achieve maximum returns. Signs and sign maintenance is an often forgotten part of every business. We spend the time investigating what is the best type of signage for our business. Then dedicate time to obtaining quotes, advice and finally selecting a company to manufacture and install our signage. The investment that businesses make for their signs can be a substantial one, especially for a new business.
For your signage to work for you in the most cost effective manner it is important that you adopt a regular signage maintenance regime. Some signs will require more maintenance than others, for example electronic signs will require more maintenance than sheet metal fascia signs. When you commission a sign company it is also very important that you ask for some advice about maintaining your sign. They will be able to give you some advice on how often you should clean your sign and any other maintenance that might be required.
Some general maintenance advice for most types of signs:
- Clean your sign with water and mild detergent – don’t use abrasive cleaners or solvent based cleaners
- Ensure that your sign is safe, i.e. there are no loose nuts or bolts – especially important for under awning signs
If you regularly maintain your signs you will achieve a longer life from them – ensuring a greater return for your investment. You will also ensure that your sign is achieving its maximum potential. For more information on illuminated sign maintenance, read our previous blog post.
Here are some examples of poorly maintained signs, which now only act as a distraction to your business.
Blog of stupid signs – all of these are badly maintained, but were obviously so distracting to the business that they became the subject matter for a blogger.
