In Brisbane, and Australia we don’t have a competition for signs.  This though is not the case in the USA.  Where the competition to have a bigger and better sign is certainly alive and well, there is a competition for the best sign, with various categories.  This competition is run annually by the go to reference for signwriters, sign installers and manufacturers in the USA and the world – Signs of the Times/Sign Web.

With many fantastic signs it is hard to choose a favourite, but our all-time favourite would be the winner of the Electric Building sign Category in 2009.

This 1^st place winning sign features a champagne bottle that is placed onto the outside corner of a brick building, and the cork is popping off.  The description is as follows, “This fiberglass, 16-ft.-tall bottle features a steel-tube structure. Paint includes duPont’s metallic-green Imron® and House of Kolor’s pearl-white finish in the foam area, which was accented by end-lit fiberoptics. The wine label was digitally printed on 3M’s Controltac™ vinyl. The pan channel letters are illuminated with Sloan LEDs.
